Profile
I joined the University of Leeds as Digital Development Manager (maternity cover) in 2025. I support the development of academic projects, providing digital support and training for researchers, and specialist advice in digital humanities methods.
Prior to this, I taught at and completed a PhD at the University of Liverpool in History. As well as a digital humanist, I am a medieval historian, working on early medieval intellectual and cultural history. I am also interested in minimal computing and low-cost ways of using digital methods for creativity and cultures research and dissemination.
Research interests
My research interests include:
- Text mining and analysis; topic modelling;
- Digital imaging and handwritten text recognition, particularly for medieval cultural heritage;
- Scientific analysis of medieval cultural artefacts;
- Carolingian and early medieval history, particularly intellectual, material and political cultures.
I am currently working on a monograph project expanding upon my PhD research, titled Advising the Carolingians: text mining early medieval political debate. My current research projects also include a low-cost multi-spectral imaging collaboration with the University of Liverpool, a project 3D scanning early medieval ivories from the Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool, and an ongoing interest in the political culture of early medieval Aquitaine.
Research outputs
Journal articles
'Identity, exemplarity and the ideal king in early medieval Ireland', Historical Research (forthcoming).
