Newly acquired Arts & Humanities resources from University of Leeds Libraries
Ian Jennings (Collections Officer, Leeds University Libraries) gives an update on some of the new resources available to staff and students for 2023-4.
The Library seeks to respond to requests from all its users for new online resources. At the end of financial year 2022/23 we were fortunate to have extra money available to respond to a number of such requests. Highlights of our resource investments at this time are noted here.
State papers online
The Library already offers a sizeable set of online state papers, British and European, from the eighteenth century, 1714-1782. We have now extended this coverage by adding a set covering James I to Anne, 1603-1714. In a slightly different direction, we have also added to our colonial state papers by offering a set featuring Hong Kong and the perhaps less familiar former British colony of Wei-Hai-Wei.
Newspapers
The Library has for some time offered searchable digital archives of major daily newspapers, such as the Guardian, the Daily Mail, Le Monde, and the Washington Post, amongst several others. Our attentions have recently turned to providing some online historical news coverage from areas away from the Global North with newer acquisitions such as the Times of India, the Hindustan Times, Rand Daily Mail, 1902-1985 and the Sunday Times [South Africa], 1906-2019, Jerusalem Post, South China Morning Post.
Online music scores
Music Online: Classical scores library, volumes I, IV and V. This resource offers digital versions of classical scores, which can be excerpted and annotated by the user. The volumes so far selected for purchase offer a range of musical periods and classical genres and hopefully manage to go some way towards meeting a requirement for more contemporary classical music scores.
EIMA
Entertainment Industry Magazine Archive. The Library currently offers the first four parts of this substantial archive of magazines relating to television, film, radio, the stage and music, including rock, folk, rap and hip-hop.
These resources, and the many others offered by Leeds University Libraries, can be found by searching the Library catalogue/discovery tool. Full listings with access details can also be found in the following resources guides:
