Immersive Heritage Environments: An Introduction to Matterport
- Date
- Wednesday 3 December 2025, 13:30-15:30
- Location
- DCCH Room, Brotherton Library
Are you interested in immersive cultural heritage environments? Do you want to translate a physical space into a digital world? Join Yuan Gao and Christopher Birchall from the School of Media and Communications and Simon Popple from DCCH to learn about easy-to-use immersive technologies that can scan entire spaces. Attendees will see how several heritage spaces can be made accessible in a new way, opening previously-unapproachable cultural heritage sites to new audiences. What's more, this technology can digitally archive under-threat heritage spaces, preserving them in a digital form, while also raising questions about the boundaries between virtual and real worlds. Attendees will then have the chance to try out one such scanning tool, Matterport, in the DCCH space in the Brotherton Library.
Led by Yuan Gao, Simon Popple and Christopher Birchall.
Please sign up here. Spaces are limited so please let us know if you are no longer able to attend this interactive workshop.
